Building a wine cellar in a high-rise building has its own set of unique constraints and considerations. But wine passionista Bob Buford says that “at the end of the day, it’s not an expense. It’s an investment. When your wine collection is going up in value, you feel less concerned about drinking an expensive bottle.”
He approached construction of his wine cellar with the same intensity he puts into purchasing a Raoul Dufy or bottle of Chateau Margaux. He studied, made lists and talked to experts before choosing Revel Custom Wine Cellars in Holland, Mich., for the six-figure project. Mr. Buford wanted a wine room that was as beautiful as it was accessible, and he thinks he has it. What Revel didn’t count on were the difficulties maneuvering in a big-city high-rise.
